Death
J.M. Sykes, aged 64 years, died suddenly yesterday morning at 11:30 at his home, No. 4 West Park avenue. Although his health had not been good for a few days, his condition was not considered serious until the end came. Mr. Sykes was born in Anson county, but came to this city with his family 28 years ago. He was a carpenter by trade. In addition to Mrs. Sykes, he is survived by two children, Mrs. Lucy Howrd, of Denver, N.C., and Carl Sykes, of this city. The funeral services will be held at the home this afternoon at 4 o'clock by Rev. L.A. Falls, pastor of Dilworth Methodist church. Interment will follow in Elmwood cemetery. The pallbearers will include J.T. Cannon, S.W. Alley, J.I. King, Carl Walker, Hazel Owens, Mack McCall.Charlotte Observer, Charlotte, North Carolina, January 24, 1921
