Individual Details
Catherine A. FURR
(Abt 1825 - )
I have a note from old Ms records that indicate that a Daniel Furr was her father, another note says Leonard Furr was her father! -- Christine Tomlin
Catherine is listed as Catherine A. Furr on her marriage bond of Nov 1840, with Daniel Furr as the bondsman, marriage taking place in Winston Co., MS. Summer of 1840 there is the family of Tobias Furr living alsmost next door to the Longs (and Parks, inlaws), with 2 daughter with the correct age, but no names.
Christine Tomlin wrires:
I think I found who Catherine A. Furr's parents are. It circumstantial, but it works for me.
1840 census Winston Co, MS Tobias Furr has a dau listed that would have been the right age. The Longs are lving close by in the 1840 census.
1850 census of Winston Co, Ms lists all of the children of Tobias, except Catherine as she was by then married to James D. Long. They appear a couple of pages over from Tobias Furr Sr and wife Sarah Plunkett.
James D. Long age 34 b. Tn Blacksmith
Catherine age 26 b. Nc
James age 8 b. ms
Mary age 5 b. ms
The Daniel Furr that was the marriage bondsman would have been her Uncle, Tobias Sr. brother.....as Catherine was under age when she married James D Long, I am having someone write off for the cert. in the court records, as there is a place in the document for the name of the father....
James and Catherine had additional daughter Sarah "Sally" b. 9 feb 1862 in Hope, Hempstead Co, Ark, she m. Andrew Jackson Holloway b. 1844 Ark Sally died 28 Nov 1932 Humble Co, Tx Her death cert names Catherine A Furr as her mother, and James D. Long as her father..,,, family moved to Texas, and their dau Iska was born Humble Co....the above dau in the census, is actually Mary Catherine!
