Death
Earl Alexander “Alex” Furr, 74, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on May 20, 2015. He was born March 6, 1941, in Albemarle, the son of the late Thaddeus A. and Mary Edna (Hartnett) Furr. Alex graduated from Albemarle High School, Class of 1958. During his school days, he was active in scouting and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Following graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Army as a parachutist. He became a member of the Army Security Agency, ASA, in the Panama Canal Zone. He also became a Licensed Captain with the U.S. Coast Guard and received his Associate Degree in Business from Wingate College. He retired as a salesman with Donovan Marine Company. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Furr and sister, Sue Ann Furr. He is survived by his wife, Sabrina Carter Furr, his sons, Mark Furr and David Furr, his stepdaughters, Melissa Cline, Randi Roberts, Lydia East, and Whitney East, his brothers, Sonny (Faye) Furr and Kenneth (Marie) Furr, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a stepgreat-grandson and a niece and nephew. The family would like to show gratitude to his childhood friends, Jeanette and Kenneth Helderman, and family friend, Bob Langwell. Graveside burial service will be conducted at the Furr Family Cemetery located at Stony Mountain Vineyards, 26370 Mountain Ridge Road, Albemarle, on May 31. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service with be held immediately following the burial at Stony Mountain Vineyards from 4-6 p.m. The family requests that any memorials or donations be made to The Stanly County Boy Scouts of America, 32252 NC 24/27 Hwy Albemarle, NC 28001 or Hospice of Stanly County and the Uwhwarrie, 960 N 1st St., Albemarle, NC 28001.The Stanly News and Press, Stanly County, North Carolina, May 22, 2015
