Death
Sunday, October 14, 2007 — Alvin Lee Smith, 81, of 625 Bethany Road, Albemarle, died at 3:39 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, in Stanly Manor Nursing Center in Albemarle. His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Prospect Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Stoney Benfield and Dr. Rick Miller. He will be buried in Stanly Gardens of Memory with full military graveside rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team. He was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Stanly County, the son of the late Henry Shelby and Julie Ann Davis Smith. He was a retired employee of Oakwood Homes and was a former employee of Albemarle Glass Company. He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church and also served as a former deacon at Prospect Baptist Church and also at Poplin’s Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy World War II and a member of VFW. He was married to Trullie Furr Smith of the home for 58 and a half years who survived him. He had three daughters, Carolyn Smith Faulkner and husband William of Albemarle, Loretta Smith McLester and the late Larry McLester of Monroe and Linda Smith McDaniel and husband George “Eddy” of Albemarle; two brothers, Richard Smith and J.T. Smith who preceded him in death; four sisters, Jennie Laton of Albemarle, Janelle Carter of New London, and Ailene Carter and Marilyn Smith preceding him in death; six grandchildren, Allen McLester, Bryan Faulkner, Todd Faulkner, Kevin Faulkner, Eddie McDaniel II and Jennifer Myers; and 10 great-grand children. The family received friends at Stanly Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m.Endnotes
