Marriage
Mr. and Mrs. Howard E. Furr, of Kannapolis, announce the mariage of their daughter, Anne Coleen, to John D. Weaver on July 27. The ceremony was perform ed at the home of Rev. Jesse Woodruff, of Mt. Airy. Mr. Weaver is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Weaver, of Warrensville. The couple will be at home at 403 Locust St., Kannapolis.Death
John Dale Weaver, 93, of West Jefferson passed away Friday, January 1, 2016 at Margate Health and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Margaret Wannamacher officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00pm on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Boone Family Funeral Home. John D. was born in Ashe County on December 17, 1922 to the late Elihu J and Bina Elliott Weaver. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, and was stationed in the Philippines on Leyte Island with the 1041st Army Engineers. Upon his return to Ashe County, he operated Weaver's Garage in Smethport, and later founded Weaver Tree Farms with his son John William Weaver. John D. was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed Upland hunting, fly fishing, shooting skeet, working in his wine, and spending time outdoors gardening. He cherished his many trips to Nebraska and South Dakota hunting and making memories with friends and family, as well as his fishing trips at Gentry's Creek. John D. was an active member of Smethport United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years and sang in the church choir. He always enjoyed music and fellowship with his church family and his large extended family. He proudly served on the Board of Directors for Ashe Federal Bank. He was a member of the International Order of Oddfellows, as well as Lansing VFW. Mr. Weaver is survived by his wife of 59 years of marriage, Ruth Harless Weaver; a son John William Weaver and wife, Suzanne of West Jefferson; a brother, Jack Wayne Weaver of Charleston, SC; three beloved grandchildren, Will Weaver, Madison Weaver and Liza Weaver; a special nephew, Joe Shepherd, of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family requests no food please! In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Smethport United Methodist Church, PO Box 1022, West Jefferson, NC 286940.
