CONCORD - Mrs. Letha Newsom Lowder, 80, formerly of 950 Vernette Court, passed away at Liberty Commons in Salisbury surrounded by her family. She walked through the gates of Heaven and into the arms of Jesus on Oct. 6, 2010. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Concord Wesleyan Church with Rev. Ron Rider and Rev. Paul Titus officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilkinson Funeral Home. Letha was born on Aug. 7, 1930, in Cabarrus County. She was one of four children born to Charlie James and Lula Trimble Newsom. She retired from Cabarrus Memorial Hospital where she worked in the operating room. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Ansel C. Lowder; son, Ansel C. Lowder Jr; and grandson, Bobby Honbarger. She is survived by her daughters, Connie L. Honbarger and her husband, Rodney, of Concord, Carolyn L. Furr of Concord, Susan L. Lentz and husband, Shannon, of Six Mile S.C., Deborah L. Burris and husband, Kenny, of Concord and Sandra Sutherland and husband, David, of Gaffeny S.C.; son, Danny Lowder and wife, Jeanette, of Kannapolis; sister, Irene Deese of Concord; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Rather than flowers, memorials may be made to Concord Wesleyan Church, 2295 Barnhardt Ave. NW Concord NC 28027 or to Liberty Hospice, 1007 Lexington Ave, Thomasville NC 27360.
