Harvey county, Kansas, has one of the brightest and liveliest old men in the state of Kansas. His name is Henry Misenhelmer, and he lives eight miles north of this city with his son, a prominent and wealthy farmer. He is undoubtedly the oldest man in the Arkansas Valley, for he was 101 years old March 14, 1889. Mr. Misenheimer was born near Concord, Cobodus (sic) county, N. C. He remained in Cobodus (sic) county 49 years, and then moved to Montgomery county, Ill., where he farmed successfully for 37 years. On leaving IIl., he went to Texas, lived there two years, and then came to this county, where he has resided ever since. In 1810 he married Rachel Furr, and lived most happily with her. She died May 3, 1870, and since that time the old gentleman has lived with his children. He has always been a worker, and even now, at his great age, cuts his own kindling-wood, sews carpet , knits mittens to sell, and climbs up in the apple trees for the fruit when he thinks it necessary. He has always been temperate, never having used tobacco or liquor of any kind. Upon the occasion of his 100th birthday over 100 of his neighbors and friends gathered at his home, gave him a sumptuous banquet, and presented him with an elegant plash platform rocking chair, with an appropriate address accompanying the gift. The sprightly old gentleman replied to the address, and made what all pronounced a very neat speech. Mr. Misenheimer has been a consistent member of the Lutheran church for 79 years, and his daily life has been such as to commend him to all of his acquaintances, and they all love him and never pass an opportunity to show him due respect and esteem. His splendid physical condition give his friends reason to think that he will be spared a number of years longer.

My maternal 5th. great grandfather is Jacob MISENHEIMER b. 1752 in PA the son of Johann Jakob MISENHEIMER and Margaretha REITER. He married 3 May 1779 in Rowan Co., NC to Elizabeth KRESS (CRESS) (daughter of John KRESS & Mrs. Catherine EBERHARDT). Jacob and Elizabeth had the following children: Margaret; Sarah b. 26 Oct 1792, married 22 Oct 1818 in NC to Godfrey WINECOFF; Rachel married Michael MILSTER; John b. ca 1780/90 in Mecklenburg Co., NC, d. 7 Nov 1838 in Montgomery Co., IL, married Mary FOGLEMAN in Cabarrus Co., NC (these are my 4th. great grandparents); George Monroe b. 14 Feb 1783 NC, d. bef. 1850 in NC, married 17 Apr 1806 in NC to Rosina LONG; Katherine married 21 Feb 1801 in NC to Christian GRONER; Elizabeth m. 22 Sept 1818 in NC to Michael WALLER?; Henry b. 1788, married 1 Oct 1810 in Cabarrus Co., NC to Rachel FURR; Joseph b. 27 Jan 1799 in Cabarrus Co., NC, married 18 Dec 1818 in NC to Polly MILSTER.
