Death

OCEAN ISLE BEACH - Richard Nelson Mauldin, 72, of Ocean Isle Beach, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington after a heroic battle with lung cancer. Mr. Mauldin was born June 15, 1933, in Stanly County. He was a son of the late Colon and Mildred Furr Mauldin. He moved to Ocean Isle Beach seven years ago. He was a retired director of measurement of N.C. Natural Gas, where he worked for 37 years. He was also a Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War aboard the USS Point Cruz CVE 119. He is survived by his wife, Joanne Coley Mauldin; three sons, Richard N. Mauldin Jr. and wife, Terre, of Summerville, S.C., Gene Mauldin and wife, Michelle, of Concord and Dana D. Mauldin and wife, Wendy, of Shallotte; a daughter, Dr. Elizabeth A. Mauldin of Philadelphia; a sister, Suzanne Griffith and husband, Bud, of Albemarle; and six grandchildren, Kevin, Laurin, Dane, Andrew, Chelsea and Megan. A celebration of life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Brunswick Funeral Service chapel in Shallotte. Family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
