Notes
Death
Ophelia (Philly) Cochran Furr, 93, of Concord, passed from this earthly life to her new life with Jesus, March 17, 2024, at her home in Concord. Ophelia was born March 23, 1930, in North Carolina to the late Zeb D. Cochran and the late Bessie Blackwelder Cochran. She was also preceded in death by husband, Harold David Furr; brothers, Clarence, James (Perch), Ralph, Zeb D Jr. (Huck) and Larry (Shorty) Cochran; sisters, Juanita (Sis) Penninger, Parksie Starnes, Martha Shue, Josie Honeycutt, and Carol Cochran. Ophelia considered herself to be a "plain country girl" who loved Jesus, her family, and her friends. She attended Harrisburg High School and, while a student, was a star basketball player. After high school she married the love of her life, Harold Furr. During the next 67 years they raised children, worked, and shared retirement years together. "Philly" and Harold joined the square-dancing club and enjoyed western square dancing and many trips with the club. Roberta Methodist Church was a constant in Ophelia's life from birth to death. It was her "church home", her place of worship and service to Jesus and the community she loved. She was active in many areas: Sunday School, busy bee circle, Benevolence Service, greeter, hot dog sales and always a big hugger! She was honored in 2018 by the church as they presented her with the "Lifetime Achievement Award". Survivors include daughters, Pam Furr (William / J.R.), and Jody Smith of Concord; son, Rodney Furr (Shelia) of Concord; sister, Ann Yates of Concord; grandchildren, Jennifer Love, Melissa Sides, Jeremy Furr (Tabitha), and Chris Furr (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Lainey and Brylee Love, Coen and Sadie Furr, Keely, Carson, Haston, and Meadow Furr; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:45 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at Roberta Methodist Church. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Roberta Methodist Church in Concord officiated by Pastors Chad Irons and Jim Church. Burial will follow at the Roberta Methodist Church Cemetery at 3925 Cochran Road, Concord. Memorials may be made to Roberta Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, Church Building Fund, or Hospice of Cabarrus County.
