Death
Winnie Horton Furr, 87, of 620 Tom Hunter Road, Charlotte; died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in Hunter Woods Nursing Home. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel in Concord. The Rev. Kirk Samms will officiate and burial will be in Roberta United Methodist Church Cemetery. Born March 28, 1914, in Savannah, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late James and Leatha Lard Horton and was a retired teacher from the Pontiac, Mich., school system. She received a B.A. degree from Florance State College in Florance, Ala., and a master’s degree from George Peabody University in Nashville, Tenn. She taught school in North Carolina, Alabama and Michigan and worked for the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Calif., and Washington, D.C. in World War II. She was a member of Kannapolis Church of Christ, Order of Easter Star, Michigan Retired Teachers and Huntersville Oaks Women’s Club. Her husband, Fredrick M. Furr, preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Fulton of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Larry Furr of Troutman; and six grandchildren, Matthew Furr, Laurie Furr Love, Sarah Furr, William Fulton, Steven Fulton and Meredith Fulton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 this evening at the funeral home.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, August 9, 2001
