Notes
Death
Daniel ‘Danny’ Kenneth Furr, 71 years old, of Dallas, TX, passed away on October 15, 2023. Danny was born on June 4, 1952, in Lubbock, Texas to Roy Kenneth ‘Corky’ Furr and Charlcie Petty Furr Gallagher. He attended Coronado High School and Texas Tech University, with a concentration in marketing and finance. He began his life-long career in the food industry as the produce warehouse manager for his family’s grocery chain, Furr’s Inc., which was founded by his great-grandfather. The stores operated mainly in the American Southwest where he served as regional director until the sale of the company in the early ‘80’s. Danny developed the ‘fresh food concept’ and opened Fresh Approach in the DFW area, with stores in North Dallas, Lake Highlands, Arlington, and Plano. Fresh Approach was a bustling enterprise that was ahead of its time. Following Fresh Approach, Danny moved to Raleigh, North Carolina where he worked for the Food Lion chain… His focus was always to recognize that the customer came first. In the early 1990’s, Danny opened Fresco’s in East Dallas, a fresh food concept store. While at Fresco’s, Danny met his future business partner, Patricia Brady, and together they operated The Coffee Co. on La Vista, tempting the neighborhood with the smells of freshly roasted coffee. For the remainder of his food proprietor career, Danny enjoyed his days roasting coffee, visiting with the neighbors, and bringing the best ‘killer tomatoes’ to East Dallas. Danny had a passion for sailing and was a licensed private pilot. Danny loved to cook, a talent that he passed along to his two children. We will forever miss his sense of humor and its application to so many areas of everyday life. Danny is proceeded in death by his parents and a brother, Bryan Edwin ‘Eddie’ Furr. He is survived by his daughter, Claudia ‘Paige’ Furr and husband John Rader; his son, Scott Daniel Furr and wife, Julie, and beloved granddaughter Hanna Elise Furr. He is also survived by his brother Michael ‘Mike’ Webster Furr and sister Beverly Furr Calvert, nieces Shelby Furr Lemons and Crystal Calvert and nephews Bryan ‘Corey’ Furr and Toby Furr; and long-time friend Gale Boulter. The family will be having a party in Danny's honor on Saturday, November 18th 3pm - 6pm at the Pour House in East Dallas, Skillman Street between Live Oak and Oram. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Texas Coalition for Animal Protection’s spay and neuter program at https://www.texasforthem.networkforgood.com/projects.73767-donations-pageEndnotes
