Notes
Birth
I'm using June 1868 as the birth date because that's what appears in the 1900 census (although it might be "Jan" rather than "Jun"). The year is consistent with every census record. The 1900 census gives a birthplace of Virginia, but every other census gives a birthplace of Maryland, so I'm using the latter.
The age notations in the 1910 and 1920 census are consistent with this date.
Residence
We would expect him to be listed with his mother in the 1870 census, but he is not.Birth
According to death certificateHis obituary is consistent with this date
His marriage record is consistent with this.
The WPA Death index is consistent with this.
Residence
This is a possibility--albeit a bit speculative. Note that the Moore family lives in the dwelling of the Griffin family. (Griffin is the name of Catherine Haywood Moore's second husband.)Residence
Charles McKenny's wife, Emma, was the sister of John's mother. He is listed as 12 years old, born in MD, with both parents born in MD.
Occupation
From marriage certificateResidence (family)
This record is difficult to find because:- The census taker abbreviated "John" as "Jno"; and
- The indexer mistakenly transcribed that as "Ino".
Residence (family)
No house number givenOwns home, but mortgaged
Parents of 7 children, 6 living
Houshold includes a Cara Wade "cousin"
Residence (family)
Owns home, but has a mortgageResidence
Oddly, he is not listed in the 1930 census record of the expected household, although his wife lists herself as married rather than widowed. He is listed elsewhere.Occupation
Census says "cook"Obit says "guard"
Residence
Note that wife Susan is not present. She is enumerated elsewhere.Death
Consistent with the 1940 census, where wife Susan records her status as "Wid".Parents are listed as "Catherine Griffin & ___"
