Benjamin BARTLETT
(Bef 6 Jun 1633 - 21 Aug 1691 - 28 Aug 1691)
Benjamin Bartlett was the son of Robert and Mary (Warren) Bartlett. He married, probably at Plymouth, Massachusetts before April 4, 1654 Susannah Jenney who died before August 18, 1655. He then married Sarah Brewster, the only daughter of Love Brewster and his wife, Sarah (Collier) Brewster. Following the death of his second wife, he married, Sissilla in 1678. By her he had three additional children: Ebenezer who married Hannah Bartlett; Sarah who married Robert Bartlett and Ichabod who married first, Elizabeth Waterman and second, Desire Arnold. Benjamin settled in Duxbury, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts where he was regarded as one of the wealthy men. At the time of his death, in 1691, he left property worth nearly 400 pounds.
Benjamin Bartlett was chosen constable in 1662, then an office of high trust and responsibility; was selectman almost continuously from 1666 until his death, being chairman of the board 1690-91; collector of excise 1664, and representative to the General Court, 1685.

"Att this Court, Benjamine Bartlett cmplained against his servant, named John Cooper, for refusing to serue him vnlesse his indenture could be produced, which was supposed by him to bee ployned and made away; the Court, vnderstanding by sufficient euidence that hee is yett to serue him three yeares, ordered him either to accept of such conditions as were agreed on betwixt his said master and him since this controversy arose, or to be forthwith publickly whipt and forced to returne to his said master; after this they renewed the conditions, and soe the mater for present is ended." BARTLETT, BENJAMIN, Duxbury, s. of Robert of Plymouth, m. 1656, Sarah, d. of Love Brewster, had Benjamin, Samuel, Ichabod, Ebenezer, and Rebecca, beside Sarah, prob. all by that w. but he had in 1678 a sec. w. Cicely. He was rep. 1685, as in Baylies, IV. 19.

Quoted from source:On 24 March 1661[/2?] William Palmer of Accushenah, cooper, sold to Mr. John Barnes of Plymouth, yeoman, for £15 "all that his home lot lying and being at Accushenah aforesaid containing twenty-five acres of upland with all the house, housing and fences thereon with three acres of meadow as yet unlaid out," but not including right of commonage [PCLR 2:2:86]. On 10 August 1666 Barnes exchanged this land with Benjamin Bartlett of Plymouth, receiving in return an eleven acre parcel lying on the southside of Plymouth [PCLR 3:74].
Accushenah is the original name for Dartmouth.
