Notes
Immigration
Ancestry for Jacob Stutsman is unclear.1. He may have been the son of Johan Jacob who immigrated to Philadelphia in 1727 from the Palatinate in Germany. The theory is that the Stutsman family had immigrated to the Palatinate from the area of Lake Thun in Switzerland due to persecution of Anabaptists. They were reported to have a small farm, vineyard and tavern near Durkheim, Germany.
2. Another theory is that Jacob was a descendant of "the pioneer Stutzman families of Berks Co PA where Magdalena Stutzman took up land near the present site of Shartlesville in 1738."
