Dr. Lenoir Avery FLEMING
(6 Mar 1898 - 22 Apr 1964)
Professor of Sociology, Central Missouri State University. An
ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren, Avery served as
pastor at Ottawa, KS (1937-40); Wichita, KS (1943-44); McPherson, KS
(part time 1944-1945); Lawrence, KS (part time 1927-28); Community
Rural, KS (part time 1921-22). He also served as General Secretary of
the Brotherhood Board, Elgin, IL, and was Dean of Students, McPherson
College. Avery and Anne had no children; however, Avery and his first
wife, Wealthy Lolita Fleming, were parents of a daughter, Pauline.
Wealthy was born 1/11/1901, died 2/12/1946 as a result of asthma and
heart disease. She was buried in McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, KS.
When Anne married Avery, Pauline Fleming was already married to Donald
Gamet. Avery and Wealthy had also adopted an infant son, Royce, who
was 14 when Anne married Avery. Anne also legally adopted Royce.
