Notes
Birth
"Margaret (Peg) Hays was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Tillie Davis..."Death
"MARGARET HAYS, MAY 19, 1914 - JUNE 19, 1992:..."Religion
"She grew up attending Berean Baptist church where she came to faith, and later dedicated her life for missionary service as a sophomore in high school..."Mission
"Their objective as missionaries to the Spanish and Quiche' Indian people was to tell the good news of salvation through Jesus. They did 'pioneer' work, traveling over the mountains of Guatemala's highlands on foot, horseback, car, or in a small plane."Realizing the enormous need for medical treatment, an inn was purchased, and the Good Samaritan Hospital was established by the Hays in Chichicastenango along with several clinics in outlying towns and villages. The Utatla'n School was founded in the city of Quiche'. Today [1992] it serves more than 700 students each year.
"Representing the Guatemalan people they loved so much, Juan Par, President of the Conference of P.M. Churches in Guatemala recently wrote:
'For the Guatemalans, the Hays were exceptional missionaries. Bill and Margaret Hays gave so much! Their hearts, their talents, their strength -- a complete life to the cause of Christ and the blessing of a nation. God chose them to minister in one of the more difficult parts of Guatemala. They experienced long hours of work, sickness, weariness, and pain -- often alone .... Bill and Margaret Hays brought us the seed; the Word of God. They sowed in dry ground, watered it with their tears and their prayers, and reaped with joy. Today, we are still reaping their labor of love.
During these last years, 'dona Margarita' dedicated herself to the ministry of prayer for us. Who will take her place?
In the name of a multitude of Guatemalan brothers and sisters, I express our gratitude and love to 'dona Margarita' and her family for her ministry of love among us; for the example of a dedicated wife and mother; and a faithful servant of God. Well done, good and faithful servant!'
