Thomas Chilton's service in the American Revolution is documented in Archives of Maryland, Baltimore, 1897, Volume 16, p. 373 and in the same record, Baltimore, 1924, Volume 43, p. 248.He first served in the Upper Battalion of Montgomery County, Maryland, commissioned as ensign on 9-12-1777, and on 8-4-1780, he was a second lieutenant in Capt. Archibald Allen's Company of the Upper Battalion in the same county.
