Notes
Birth
Adam Sherrill, William's father, was on the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Conestoga Township tax list for 1720. Other members of the Sherrill family remained in this location until at least 1724, and it is probable that Adam Sherrill stayed in Conestoga also.Miscellaneous
The 1748 Augusta County, Virginia, Delinquent Tax List shows Adam Sherrill, Adam Sherrill, Jr., Samuel Sherrill, William Sherrill, and Abraham Sherrill as "not found." This suggests they had moved on to NC, perhaps after the death of Adam Sherrill's father William Sherrill.Documentation is from Chalkley, Lymon. Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia, Vol. 2, p. 410-419. Augusta County, Virginia, Court Records.
This record is also transcribed at www.usgenweb.org, Virginia Archives [Sherrill search.]
Miscellaneous
In 1752, in Anson County, NC (later Lincoln Co.) William Sherrill, along with others, petitioned for a land grant of 600 acres for himself.Documented in C.R. 4 p. 1014.
Miscellaneous
On 2-23-1773, in Tryon County (later Lincoln County,) Capt. William Sherrill was paid by the Colonial Assembly of North Carolina a sum of 27 pounds and 15 shillings for services rendered by himself and 10 other men, who made an expedition to Silver Creek and Quaker Meadows (now in Burke County.)Documented in C.R. 9 p. 257 and C.R. 22 p. 878.
