Lackey, Dr James Anderson (1809-1885)
House, 32nd and 36th General Assemblies, 1857-59, 1869-71; representing
Dyer and Lauderdale counties; Whig before Civil War; Democrat thereafter. Born
in Rutherford Co on Feb 14 1809 (1810) ; son of Alex and ---Kelton Lackey.
Attended Transylvania Medical College, 1835 -36; removed to Lauderdale Co and
practiced medicine at Ripley for forty-eight years. In 1858 received honory
M.D. degree from the University of Nashville. Married in Lauderdale Co on March
10 1842 to Rebecca Richardson, daughter of Dr Stith Richardson. Children
Evaline and Stith Lackey. Member Presbyterian Church. Among civil offices held
were: postmaster and magistrate; county register, 1847-57; chairman county
court, 1851-54, 1857; county trustee, 1862-70..
Died on May 21 1895 presumably in Ripley Co; buried in Old Lake Drive Cemetery,
Ripley.
