Alexander John Conner
(1821 - 16 May 1897)
"Aleck Connor, aged 55 years, died of paralysis, at his home on Cedar creek I. T., on Tuesday morning at eight o'clock. He was a Mexican by birth, add when but a child was stolen from his home in Mexico by the Comanche Indians, who brought him into the Indian Territory, where he was sold to the Delaware tribe. Chief Connor, of the Delawares, took a great fancy to the young alien, and adopted him as his own son. When the war began Connor came to Kansas and enlisted in the Sixth Kansas Cavalry, and was a faithful soldier throughout the bloody struggle. After the war he returned to the Territory and remained until his death on Tuesday. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn his loss. The remains will be brought to Coffeyville and will be interred in the city cemetery Wednesday morning at ten o'clock. He will be buried with appropriate honors by Post 153, G. A. R., of which he was a faithful member."
