William Anderson Sherrill

The following information was recorded by W. A. S. on 18 May 1967. It was obtained from the Will of Samuel Wilson Sherrill, Lebanon, TN and from Bettie Roudabush.
William Anderson Sherrill, M.D., was born 9 Jun 1841. He was the third child of Samuel Wilson Sherrill and Eliza Ann Bomar. He was a member of the 38th Tennessee Volunteers of the Confederate Army. He was crippled for life by a shot through the knee at the Battle of Munfordsville, Kentucky, in September 1862. (According to Bettie Roudabush, he was serving in the Confederate Army as a surgeon when he was shot at Shiloh.) He was married Jan 1871 to Jennie C. Martin, daughter of J. D. Martin. She was born 5 May 1851, died 12 March 1875, buried in Matthews Cemetery, Gladeville, Tennessee. His second wife was a Mrs. Davis. William Anderson Sherrill died on July 20, 1880 and was buried Sherrill Cemetery, Gladeville, Tennessee. He and his first wife, Jennie C. Martin had one surviving child:

William Anderson Sherrill was a member of the 38th Tennessee Volunteers of the Confederate Army. He was crippled for life by a shot through the knee at the Battle of Mundordsville, Kentucky, in Sept. 1862. He left an only child, John Samuel Sherrill, born Dec. 21, 1871 and died Jan. 11, 1893. Samuel Burdon Sherrill, Sr., in his family ledger wrote in 1893: John Samuel Sherrill was a young many of fine personal appearance, well educated, a universal favorite, but just at maturity, with a promising life before him was stricken down by the destroyer of all earthly hopes and ambitions - Death.
1. John Samuel Sherrill, b. 21 Dec 1871 and d. 11 Jan 1893. Samuel Burdine Sherrill, the brother of William Anderson. Sherrill wrote in his family ledger in 1893:
"John Samuel Sherrill was a young man of fine personal appearance, well educated, a universal favorite, but just at maturity, with a promising life before him was stricken down by that Destroyer of all earthly hopes and ambitions -- Death."
