A date of approximately 1757 is seen for the birth of Hezekiah - he didn't marry until 1789. I suspect he was at least younger the Laughlin; perhaps not born until about 1765 or later.

Marriage Bond. Hezekiah Flynn to Mary Elliott on 23 Feb 1789 in Surry Co NC. George Flynn was Bondsman.
DAR Application states that the marriage to Mary Elliott was Hezekiah's 2nd marriage - I think it more likely it was his first. [it was her second marriage]

Another version:

Hezekiah Flinn, b. (unknown) in NC, d 1808, married Elizabeth Capps (actually CASADA, not Capps), 25 Jul 1797, Knox Co Tenn. Their children were: Abraham, b. app 1798, Martin, app 1802, and Rhoda Flinn, b app 1806. [A marriage at age 40 would seem to be rather late. A third marriage? Is this a grandchild rather than a child of Thomas? Someone else all together? ]

Note: FamilySearch maintains a 4th child born to Hezekiah & Elizabeth Casada - Rev. William Riley Flinn, born June 1810 in Blount Co TN, died 1887 in Georgia. IF William was a son, it is likely he was born after the death of Hezekiah. William's story is on FindAGrave, Memorial# 89623848, obviously well researched. I'm not at all sure this man was a son of Hezekiah and the FindAGrave page names no parents.

FAR FLUNG FLINNS may have the answer to the above puzzle. The book says that Hezekiah did marry Mary Lakey Elliott in Surry Co but that in the 1800 census Mary is shown alone. Hezekiah having abandoned her and gone West, marrying Elizabeth Capps (sic - CASSA) in Tennessee. Checking this census only increased my confusion. Mary Flinn is listed with 2 boys & 1 girl under age 10 [born bet 1790-1800], 2 boys & 1 girl age 10-16, 2 boys & 1 girl age 16-26, and herself as 26-45. This is a lot of children, especially with 3 under age 10, if Hezekiah left her and married Elizabeth Cassa by 1797, and Mary & Hezekiah had married in 1789. The three under 10 are possible and matches the information below, but not the older children. [They could of course be her siblings, etc.] Mary was on the same page with John Flinn, p.653, Salisbury Dist of Surry, but this part of the census has been semi-alphabetized by the first letter of the last name.

I found the following records for Mary in Surry Co. In order for her to hold title to land, either she had to have been a widow, divorced, or declared femme sole - an independent woman - by the court:

I think we have corresponded before concerning the Poindexter family tree, but I want to give some for Flinn. Mary Elliott that married Hezekiah Flynn was her second marriage. She is the widow of Thomas Elliott who died around 1787. Mary Ann Lakey was her maiden name. She is the daughter of John Lakey and Elizabeth Manor. I have for her children under Hezekiah as James born 24 Dec 1791, Elizabeth 16 Oct 1792 and Thomas Wright about 1794. I don’t have any proof of the children, but I thought you would like the Elliott information.
