Obadiah Smith

(Abt 1672 - 1746)

Obadiah was the son of John Smith (b. bef 1637 in England, d. 1692 in Virginia) and the grandson of Jacob Smith who died in Charles City Co VA before 1691. All three men lived in Diggs Hundred on Turkey Island Creek in Charles City Co. Obadiah's mother was most likely Hannah Daft, daughter of William Daft & Joane Parker of England.

Obadiah's will was written 29 Oct 1744.
He left to son John, 300 acres next to John Pleasants on Miry Branch, also next to John Cannons and Joseph Pleasants, also 20 acres of meadowland on Cattail Creek, also water mill and 2 acres, 2 Negroes.
To son Obadiah, 300 acres next to John, 1 Negro
To son Jacob, 300 acres, remainder of above tract, next to Col. Byrd, John's branch, John Price, Thomas Williamson, and Mr. Richardson
To daughter Elizabeth Ellis, 400 acres, uppermost part of branch called Long and Hunary, 2 Negroes
To daughter Mary Smith, 400 acres part of aforesaid tract adjoining Rowin Blackburne, 2 Negroes
To son Luke, a Negro
To daughter, Ann Smith, a Negro
To son William, 300 acres next to Horse Swamp on Brock Road, next to Mr. Richardson, Mr. Massey and William Ferris, also the land I bought of William Ferris, 40 acres, also the remainder of the aforesaid tract and plantation where I now live, 3 Negroes
To wife Mary, slaves for life.
