Individual Details

John Asbill

( - )

John served in Leonard Marbury's Continental Regt of Light Horse with William, traditionally his brother. They both received bounty land in Wilkes Co GA, although there is nothing to show they ever actually settled on this land. He moved to Kentucky, Madison Co about 1795, as that's when he appears in the tax records.

In 1829, John's sons John Jr. and Tyre left for Missouri. Thomas Asbell moved to Indiana. Sarah & David Winkler followed her brothers to Missouri but they died of typhoid in St. Joseph MO in 1840. Polly & Linsfield Becknell stayed in Kentucky. Pierce moved to Southwest Missouri, where he and some of his children are buried at the Asbell Cemetery in Bona, MO. William Daniel & family followed John Jr. and Tyre on to Oregon after 1850 and ended up near Tyre in Mendocino County CA by 1860. (John Jr. had died before the 1860 census.) Hannah and Francis Still moved to Indiana, Vanderburgh County.
