Funeral services for Wanda Sue Arthur were held Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Dick Kurtz officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Minco. Services were under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
Sue was a longtime resident of El Reno but was currently living in Sapulpa. She died Dec. 16, 2018, at St. John Hospital in Sapulpa.
Sue was born July 14, 1935, in Mangum, the second oldest of the 12 children of Clarence and Beatrice Grace (Shipman) Shropshire.
One of Sue’s first jobs was working as a ship to shore operator for Bell Telephone, but the majority of her working career was spent as a bookkeeper for Hensley’s and Consumer Oil Company.
Sue loved her faith and her church, First Assembly of God Church, where she served as the bookkeeper. For many years she participated in the Foster Grandparent Program in both El Reno and Sapulpa. She enjoyed reading, sports and watching cowboy movies.
On Sept. 20, 1953, Sue married Corby Lee Arthur at Gainesville, Texas. Corby preceded her in death in 1991. Three sisters, one brother and a great-grandson, Kade Daniel Klaassen, also preceded her in death.
Sue is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Brent Shirey of Sapulpa and Charisse and Gary Bates of El Reno; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron and Noweeta Shropshire, Mack and Mary Shropshire, Michael and Karen Shropshire and Eddie Shropshire; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gwen and Louis Ray Leonard, Joyce Brennan and Pam and Mike Curtis; granddaughters and husbands, Heather and Shannon Klaassen, Angela Shirey and Amanda and Matt Connell; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Karsyn, Cole and Kimber Grace Klaassen; and a number of beloved nieces and nephews.
