Jessie Marie Spencer Lingle, 92, of Marshall, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia Society.
Born March 2, 1913, in Scofield, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Mary Ellen Sanders Spencer. On Sept. 1, 1940, in Jefferson City, she married Thomas W. Lingle, who preceded her in death June 1, 1994. She graduated from eighth grade from Green Mound School in Bolivar and Mary Wood Beauty School in Jefferson City in 1931. She had lived in Marshall since 1949, moving from Ft. Leonard Wood and owned and operated Lingle Beauty Shop since moving to Marshall until December 2004. At the age of 10, she accepted Jesus as her Savior and was baptized at Spring Valley Church in rural Polk County. Since that time, she was active in the local church depending on where she resided. Upon moving to Marshall, she became a member of the First Baptist Church, where her membership was at the time of her death. During this time she served as Sunday school teacher for the 8-year-old boys for 25 years and then as the teacher for the Fidelis Class until 2003.
Her family includes two daughters, Melda Marie Lingle of Marshall and Sue Ellen Stouffer and husband Bill of Napton; two grandsons, Bert Stouffer and wife Jacque of Liberty and Rob Stouffer and wife Rachel of Lee's Summit; four great-grandchildren, Will Stouffer and Jacob Stouffer of Liberty and Bennett Stouffer and Madeline Stouffer of Lee's Summit; several nieces and nephews; and three sisters-in-law, Georgie Spencer of Jefferson City, Oletha Harp of Springfield and Joy Lingle of Jay, Okla.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Irene Lingle; six brothers, George, Harrell, Hurshel, Howard, Herman and Homer Spencer; and two sisters, Gladys Ashworth and Stella Standley.
