Meredith Wood Hoag, son of Allan and Mamie Hoag, grew up in Easton then Greenwich, New York. He received his B.S. from Cornell University in 1932. He was for a time a fashion photographer in Manhattan. On January 14, 1944 he married Helen Andrews, daughter of Nicholas and Bridget Luddy Andews of Cambridge, NY. Helen was a Laboratory Technician at Albany Medical College. Meredith thought it significant that Helen was born just 20 days after his own mother passed away.
Meredith and Helen lived in Greenwich Village on Church St for many years. Meredith served as Mayor there, and was the proprietor of a watch repair business and was a popular science teacher at Greenwich Central School. Helen ran the "Village Crafts & Curios" store out of their home at 17 Church Street.
