Individual Details

The George Washington Ewing that married Polly Frazier does not seem to be the same man as the son of Robert Ewing & Jane McLean. They married in 1787 and he married in 1801 - not hardly enough years. Robert had no brother named George - did he have a cousin? There is a George W. Ewing in Logan Co that was in the 1850 census and seemed to be of the right age to be the son of Robert and Jane. See below.

One George W. Ewing had died by 10 Oct of 1807 when the inventory and appraisement of his property was ordered by the court and completed by Samuel & James Wilson. He had 7 horses, 8 head of cattle, hogs, sheep, ducks and geese. He had one young slave. There was both a man's and woman's saddle, a gun, shoemakers tools & lasts, a looking glass, a loom. Total was $958.75.

Court Order Book 7, p. 190, November 1819. Mitchell Ewing, 17 on 29 May next, is apprenticed to John Frazer, bricklayer. Thomas W. Ewing, 13 on 9 February next, is apprenticed to Alexander McElwain to learn the plasterers trade.

Logan Co DB S, p.244 6 Jan 1834. Mitchell Ewing & Thomas F. Ewing, heirs of Washington Ewing Dec to Robert E. Acock. Mitchell & Thomas F. are entitled to 2/3 of tract patented to their father Washington Ewing. 200acres on waters of Muddy R near Russellville where Washington Ewing lived & died. Signed: Thos F. Ewing, Mikel M. Ewing. Wit: G. A. Williams, A. F. Watson Proved by witnesses 3 Feb 1834.

Obviously the George W. Ewing who died before 1819 in Logan County is not the same as one found in the 1850 Census. Lived alone in the 1850 Census.

George & Judith not being able to live in harmony; she having left his House declared never to return. Mutually agreed to live separately. She may carry on such trade as if she were a feme sole & unmarried. To Chasteen H. Trabue as trustee for Judith the following slaves, all household furnishing Judith brought with her to the marriage, horse & saddle. Said Judith releases sd Ewing of all other claims. Signed: Geo W.
