An Ancestry tree of a descendant states that his father is unknown. Thomas Morris had been dead about seven years when he was born. He is with Francis in the 1860 census and always used her surname, Morris. There apparently is a Voter Registration Book where he lists John Critcher as his grandfather - but I have not seen this record. I would suspect he isn't her child except that there exists autosomal DNA matches to descendants.

Webster B. Morris of Lovelady Twp, Caldwell Co, died 2 Oct 1924. Found dead in his bed. He was 68 years, 2 months, and 11 days at death - no birth given; born in Watauga Co. Farmer. widow. "Not Obtainable" is given for parents' names but someone wrote in Fannie Critcher for his mother. W. J. Wilson, was the informant. Buried on Oct 3rd, Harris Chappel.
