John Cloyes

(2 Dec 1604 - 1676)

From FindAGrave:
He may be the John Clayes baptized 2 Dec 1604 at Saint Nicholas, Colchester, Essex, England. There is one record, but it is not supported by any of the history sources.
Took Oath of Fidelity and admitted freeman 1652 in Watertown, MA.

He was married three times:
(1) Abigail Mournings, perhaps, October 12, 1635 in Woolverstone, Suffolk, England. They had three children: John Jr, Peter, & Nathaniel. [And I believe, Thomas]
(2) Jane [?] before May 03, 1656 in Charlestown, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts. Jane released dower rights to Watertown property in 1660 which would imply she had been married previously. She is probably the mother of Abigail, Sarah, Thomas [his records indicate he was older & more likely a son of Abigail], & Martha.
(3) Julia [?} Spurwell (several spelling variations of Spurwell are recorded) about 1667 in Massachusetts. “Quarreling with 2 of her stepchildren and ‘a tale bearer from house to house,’ in 1673.”

Note: some researchers have conflabulated Jane & Julia Spurwell into one person.
