Major problem with this person: The Allen Potter who died in Cranston, RI and said to be this man, is always stated as born in RI about 1799. This simply doesn't work out to be the same Allen Gifford Potter, although the wife in the census records is an Eliza. I believe this was a leap of faith and very wrong.

In 1850, his sister Laura had in her household four Potter children - not the children of her brother Merritt - he was in his own household. Could Allen & wife have been deceased and she has taken in their children?
Elihu Potter, was 18; Horace was 13; Susanna was 10; Frances was 8.
