Individual Details
Phebe Ann Tompkins
(Apr 1814 - 10 May 1881)
from the Janesville Daily Gazette:
Mrs. Hoskins' maiden name was Tompkins. She was married to Mr. Hoskins in Scipio, Cayuga county, New York, in 1834, from which place they moved to this county in 1846, and have resided here ever since. She had reached the age of sixty-six years, and for nearly forty years of her life had been a consistent member of the Baptist church. She was among the earliest members of the church organized here, and first worshiped with them in the early years of Janesville's history, when the congregation was wont to assemble in a little school house, before they had a building of their own. Her life was a quiet one and so full of true womanliness and devotion to her family and home duties as to call forth the admiration of all who came in contact with it.
Besides her husband she leaves six children living, Mrs. Dr. Butler, of this city, Mrs. Will Webster of Ripon, R.W. Hoskins, who is in Texas, Miss L.N. Hoskins, and Miss Mary Hoskins, who live at home, and Mr. Joshua Hoskins, who also resides in this city.
