(Abt 1766 - Aft Aug 1844)

FindAGrave Memorial #113130476
Rachel was the daughter of Nathaniel, III (1725-95) and Sarah Cartmell (-1815), originally of Frederick County, Va. Her father served in the Revolutionary War. Rachel's brothers, Nathan (1762-1804) and Jacob Cartmell (1765-1834) married her husband's sisters, Susan Catharine (1767-1837) and Rebecca Crist (1773-1839), respectively. Nathan Cartmell's (1762-1804) daughter, Rogeneah Cartmell (1783-1858) married Henry Crist's youngest brother, Jacob Crist (1775-1817). The seven children of Henry and Rachel Ann Cartmell Crist were Sarah Cooper (1790-1873), Catherine (1792-), Rebecca (1793-), Susan (1797-1868), Henry Spears (1799-1856), Elizabeth/Elvira (1801-2_), and Julia Field Crist (1804-38).
Henry Crist was buried on his farm "Pleasant Hill" in Bullitt County. Rachel was presumably also buried there. In 1856, the farm consisted of 376 acres and was located on the Cedar Grove Road at NW intersection with Hwy 1442 (Clark's Ln). There are no headstones left to mark the cemetery. The Kentucky Legislature in 1868 adopted a resolution to remove Henry Crist's body to the State Cemetery in Frankfort. This was accomplished in 1869. See the Louisville Daily Democrat, February 5, 1869, p3. concerning General Crist's reinterment.
