Individual Details

Charles D. Critcher

(1817 - 1861)

Provisional son of Mastin Crutcher/Critcher based on autosomal DNA match.
Other circumstantial evidence: Born in North Carolina 1817 - about a year after Mastin married Mary Hancock, but married in Tennessee about 1838. Same path as family of Mastin Crutcher and Charles would have been old enough to remain in Tennessee when the others went to Mississippi.
Similar Critcher family given names are used.
Relationship to Briggs family. Two children of Mastin Crutcher married children of Clement Briggs, also of Tippah Co, MS 1850 census - one was Sally, child of the first marriage to Mary Hancock who married Sterling Briggs; the other was James, son of Martha Longmire, who married Eliza J. Briggs. Charles's son James apparently went from Tennessee to Mississippi and married Mary J. Briggs, daughter of Sally Crutcher (probable full sister) and Sterling Briggs - James & Mary's first child born in Mississippi. Mary likely his first cousin. There surely had been contact between the families in Tennessee & Mississippi for James to make this connection.

Possibly Charles - the ages fit, but there is a child born that not does appear in 1850.
