RICHMOND — Eula Winkler Drake, 89, formerly of Berea, died Thursday, October 6, 2011, in the home of her son in Sterling Heights, Mich.
She was born in Estill County April 5, 1922, to B.U. and Vianna Spivey Winkler. She was a school teacher in Estill County before her marriage, and she was later employed and retired from Parker-Hannifan Corporation in Berea. She was known for her love of flowers, gardening and cooking, but especially was known for her love of family. Mrs. Drake was a member of Pilot Knob Baptist Church, which she attended faithfully before her illness.
Survivors include: her daughter, Judy Short (J. Roger) of Berea; her son, Art Drake of Sterling Heights, Mich., and his fiancé, Carole Frenell of Rochester Hills, Mich.; two brothers, Gene Carter Winkler (Nola) and Jay Winkler; her twin sister, Beulah Richardson; three grandchildren, Chris Short (Liz), Brett Short and Eric Short; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler Scott Short, Logan Thayer Short and Laken Nicole Cameron (fiance' Coty Childress); her former granddaughter-in-law, Danyell Short; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Drake is preceded in death by: her husband, Willard Drake; four brothers, Irvine Winkler, William Art Winkler, B.U. Winkler, Jr. and Pete Winkler; and her sister, Violet Hake.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Pilot Knob Baptist Church, 8091 Battlefield Memorial Hwy, Berea, with the Rev. Robert Taylor and the Rev. Greg Lakes officiating. Burial will follow in Madison County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Chris Short, Brett Short, Eric Short, Tyler Short, Logan Short, J. Roger Short and Edwin Glenn Winkler, Jr.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful dedication and support of Mrs. Drake's current and former caregivers.
