Oral Ray Jones passed from this life on August 11, 2011 at his home surrounded by family after a brief battle with liver cancer.
Oral Ray "O'Ray" or "Uncle O" was born September 25, 1930 to Oral Samuel and Viola Mae Callies Jones at the home of his grandparents, Otto and Eda Mae Callies, 8 miles south of Wellston, Okla.
Oral Ray moved to Edmond in 1936 and always said that he went to every school in Edmond except Clegern during his school years.
He met Ada Mae Baker in the seventh grade, and eventually married her their senior year on February 5, 1949.
He started working at Van's Bakery of Edmond when he was 12, greasing pans, dunking donuts, loading delivery trucks and then as a salesman until 1963. He went to work as a salesman for Frito-Lay (Pepsico) in 1962 and retired from Frito-Lay in September 1992.
After retirement, they moved to Lake Texoma for 13 years where they had many dear friends. They relocated back to Edmond in 2006 to be close to their family once again.
Oral was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family. He also had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, water skiing or just sitting in the boat listening to his music. He will be greatly missed and always loved.
Oral Ray was preceded in death by his mother and father and his brother, Jimmie Lee Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ada Baker Jones; daughter, Raenada Jones Fitzgerald and husband, Bill, and son, Michael Ray Jones, and wife Cindy Fowlkes Jones.
