"Death of Charles V. Hoskins. A sufferer from Bright's disease of the kidneys for more than a year past, Charles V. Hoskins died at his residence in Macdougall Street Wednesday morning at 3 a. m. Mr. Hoskins, a native of Scipio, was born in 1829. At the age of 30, he removed to Auburn. He served as under sheriff during the terms of John G. Hosmer, A. J. Sanders and Thomas Reed. Failing to receive a nomination for sheriff on the Republican ticket he ran as a stump candidate, dividing his party's vote between John Choate, the regular nominee and himself, ensuring the election of Thomas Reed, then a fish dealer on North Street. The deceased was well known for his honest and manly qualities. He leaves a wife, a son, Charles Hoskins of the Cayuga County bank, and two daughters, Marion and Clara. Funeral services at his late residence at 2 p. m. to-day."
