Richard Pellett

(Abt 1534 - Bef 16 Jan 1586/87)

Richard was first married, by 1559, to Agnes Denby, daughter of John Denby of Colchester. Agnes had died by 23 May 1577 when he married Mary Coker. This was Mary Coker's 3rd marriage; she was first married to a Garrington and then to Thomas Turner. She married a 4th time in Dedham, on 17 Feb 1591/2, John Lawrence, of Fressingfield, Suffolk.

Richard, as eldest son, inherited the Manor of Charlton in Sussex and represented Steyning in Parliament in 1572, however, he moved to Maldon Essex later in the 1570's. He purchased Bignor Park, Sussex, in 1584. (Richard's son Benjamin inherited the Steyning property; his son Thomas inherited Bignor Park.) Administration of his estate was granted his widow Mary on 16 Jan 1586/7. His inquisition post morten, taken 27 Feb 1586/7 gives a death date of 21 Jan 1586/7 which conflicts with the administration date and must be an error.

Richard's children were born to his first wife Agnes.
