CAULKSVILLE — Marie Combs, 89, of Caulksville died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in her home. She was born Jan. 11, 1914, in Logan County. She was co-founder with her husband, Paul and owner of Combs Home Builders and House Moving. She was Arkansas' only certified builder for VA, FHA and HUD houses to be moved, was a member of Arkansas and National House Movers Association, the Building Trades Association, was selected as a honored member of Who's Who in Executives and Professionals and was a member of North Logan County Chamber of Commerce, United States Chamber of Commerce and the United States Jaycees. She received the Community Service Award for Logan and Franklin Counties for Manufacturers Expo, was a benefactor of North Logan Mercy Hospital, a benefactor and member of DAV Commanders Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of James Combs. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial at Caulksville City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Cantrell of Caulksville; two sons, Donald Combs of Central City and Red Combs of Caulksville; two sisters, Lucille Layman of Graham, Texas, and Juanita Powell of Ratcliff; three brothers, Marvin Hill of Seneca, S.C., Dwight Hill of Logansport, La., and Lindell Hill of Caulksville; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Francis Frederick, Bud Turk, Steve Moody, Bud Organ, Charles Cagle, James Sprick, Steve Hertlein and Michael Beeton. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church or American Heart Association.
