Ichabod Ward

March 1756. Daniel Hurd made bond as guardian of Icabod Ward, minor Son of Peter Ward Junr late of Killingworth, dec'd.

Then personally appeared before me the Subscriber Icabod Ward son of Peter Ward Late of Killingworth Decd and Declared that he made choice of his Brother Jarius Handy of Guilford (actually his brother-in-law) for his Guardian he being upward of fourteen years of age.

19 June 1764 Jarius Handy made Bond as guardian of Ichabod Ward, minor son of Peter Ward late of Killingworth, dec'd.
13 May 1768. Petition of the freeholders of the NE Part Beekman Precincts. Probably citizens of Dover. They had only four constables which they consided too few and were requesting one more. Signatures include Moses Allen, Jonas Allen, Ichabod Ward. [SETTLERS OF THE BEEKMAN PATENT, Vol 1]
May 1785 - Killingworth became part of Middlesex County.
Fought in the Revolution. Capt. for the 3rd Regiment, Dutchess County Militia. Commanded Moses Allen, his brother-in-law according to Gifford story.
17 Oct 1775. Commisions were issued for the Dutchess Co 3rd Militia - Ichabod Ward, First Lieutenant
22 Jun 1778. Ichabod Ward made Captain in the district in which he lives.

Ichabod Ward: 2m over 16, 5m under 16, 4 females
Three of the children of Ichabod Ward and Lydia Towner have their births recorded in the Killingworth Vital Records, Killingworth, CT [from the Barbour Collection]. All indications are that he was at that time [1782-1791] living in Dutchess Co, NY. Were some of their children taken back "home" to be baptized?
It is also possible that there was a son named Ichabod. Records of Ichabod Ward Junr. are found in the Beekman Precinct records. Ichabod Ward, Jr. was Constable, 1798, 1799, 1800 and was paid for various responsibilities during that time period. There was also a bond in 1785 said to be that of Ichabod Ward. However, the elder Ichabod and Lydia were married in 1781, so any child of theirs would likely have been only about 16 in 1798. There are indications that other Wards did live in Beekman Patent, but it seems a bit odd that this man would have been referred to as "Junior" when the elder Ichabod seemed to be absent from the area by 1798.
