Perry C. Swiggett
Perry Clinton Swiggett, born in Fayette County, Indiana, died at his home at 704 East Washington Street at 9:15 o'clock Thursday night following a period of ill health extending over eight years.
Mr. Swigget was born in Everton, Fayette County, on Dec 18, 1848, the son of James A. and Elizabeth Swiggett. He came to this county and settled in Zionsville, coming to Lebabon from that place. At that time, he was employed by the Big Four Railroad as a bridge carpenter.
He had been married three times, the last marriage being in 1892. Two children, one by a former marriage, Orville K. Swiggett, and Orion Swiggett, of a later marriage, survive.
Two brothers, Charles P. Swiggett of Zionsville and Thomas P. Swiggett of Indianapolis and a sister, Mrs. Stephen Crandall, in Evanston, also survive.
Mr. Swiggett was a member of the Masonic and Red Men fraternities of this city and was also a member of the Methodist church here.
After his retirement from the postion that he held with the Big Four Railroad, he engaged at the carpenter's trade, working under the late George Busby. He worked for some time as an employee of Mr. Busby's but after a time, he began to contract carpentering jobs himself and has, in his lifetime, built many buildings in Lebanon and the surrounding towns, as well as a few residences in Indianapolis. He also contracted for and built several school houses.
Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery.
