Mary was the daughter of Stephen Arnold and Sarah Lay Woods.
Mary deeded to her son Gainum her homestead in Claiborne Co in 1890 - about the time Gainum married. She and her youngest son, John Esco, age 15, then homesteaded in Utica, Kansas. About 1905, Mary returned to Knoxville to live with her daughter Mary and Mary's second husband John W. Siler.

Mrs. Mary E. McBee, age 87 years died on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Siler, 317 North Broadway. Funeral services will be held from the residence Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. and the place of interment will be announced later.

The Funeral service for Mary McBee, whose death occurred Sunday at the residence of the Daughter at 317 North Broadway, will be conducted Friday morning at 10:00. Interment wil be in the Greenwood Cemetery. The deceased was a widow and was 87 years old.

Mary is buried Greenwood Cemetery, Tazewell Pike, Knoxville. Said to be beside Eli D. Miller, the first husband of her daughter Mary, and two of the Miller children, George and Robert.
