SAMUEL M. STEVINSON, of the firm of Stevinson & Guitar, grocerymen, was born in Boone county, September 29, 1862, the son of Maj. S.M. and E.A. Stevinson. Educated in the district schools, he has been a grocery merchant twelve years, pushing and sturdy. He married Miss Mollie Shobe, of this county, October 30, 1890. They have two children, Lily and Susan. In politics Mr. Stevinson is a democrat and in religion a member of the Christian church. [See p. 61 for photo of S.M. Stevinson.]

S. M. Stevinson Makes Largest Single Purchase in Milk Factory.
Another $500 worth of stock in the proposed condensed milk factory in Columbia was subscribed this morning by Samuel M. Stevinson, a candidate for councilman from the First Ward. This is the largest single subscription. The Commercial Club began the sale of stock with the idea of distributing it among farmers and townspeople and small shares were encouraged....

2 County Churches Give Basket Dinners
All-Day Picnic Affairs Are Held at Old Cedar and Huntsdale

Many Columbians Attend - Several Talks Made at Both Places
Many Columbians, residents and former residents of Boone County were present at basket dinners given by the Old Cedar Baptist Church, twelve miles from Columbia, and by the Huntsdale Baptist Church at Huntsdale, yesterday.
...Elder Archie Brown preached at the annual basket dinner of the Old Cedar Church once of the most widely known and oldest churches in Missouri. It is at the edge of Callaway County on the Columbia & St. Charles roads. Residents who live within a radius of 100 miles of the church, however, assemble once a year for the basket dinner.

Fire Insurance Company Elects.
John Glenn was elected president of the Boone County Mutual Fire Insurance Company at the annual election of the company yesterday. Other officers elected were: vice-president, A. H. Shepherd; secretary, Samuel M. Stevinson; treasurer, M. F. Thurston.

Samuel Milton Stevinson, 85, died at 7:45 o'clock Saturday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank T. Armstrong, 725 West Seventh Street.
Mr. & Mrs. Stevinson had been visiting with their son-in-law and daughter since March 25th.
Mr. stevinson was born a Hallsville, MO, and had been a lifelong resident of Columbia and Boone counties. He had been in business in Columbia since he was 17 years of age, first in the grocery business and for the last 50 years, in the insurance business. He was a deacon in the First Christian Church in Columbia
Mr. & Mrs. Stevinson recently sold their home in Columbia, which they had built in 1921, to Christian College for the president's home.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Virginia stevinson, one daughter, Mrs. Armstrong, a sister, Mrs. Rebecca Coons of Columbia, a brother Leslie Stevinson of Hallsville and three grandchildren, R. S. Mead of Kansas City, Frank Armstrong, Jr., a student in Westminster College in Fulton, and Mrs. Mary Virginia Harms of Sedalia.
A daughter, Mrs. Lillian O'Hara, died in 1942.
The body is at the McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Parker's Chapel in Columbia. Rev. Clarence E. Lemmon, pastor of the First Christian Church in Columbia will officiate.
Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia.

Mrs. Susan Ann Armstrong
Mrs. Susan Ann Armstrong, 82, 725 West Seventh, died at 6:10 pm Saturday at the Lutheran Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Concordia, Mo., where she had been a patient for two and one-half years.
She was born Dec 24, 1892, in Columbia, MO., daughter of Samuel and Mary Virginia Shobe Stevinson. She married Frank Armstrong, Oct 6, 1923, in Columbia. Mr. Armstrong, former Pettis County Magistrate Judge, died Nov 23, 1973.
Mrs. Armstrong was a graduate of the old Christian College High School Academy. She also graduated in 1913 from Columbia College. She lived in Sedalia since 1923, and before her illness was a member of the First Christian Church, SWF and Group 2. Mrs. Armstrong was also a member of the Sorosis-Osage Chapter of the DAR and Sedalia Garden Club No. 2. She was a Red Cross nurse's aide during and after World War II.
She is survived by one son, Frank T. Armstong, Clayton, MO.; one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Harms, 725 West Seventh; two grandson; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and one nephew, Robert S. Mea, Weston, Mo.
The body is at the McLaughlin Funeral Home where funeral arrangements are incomplete.
