Nathan D. Stamps was age 42 and married when he was mustered into the U. S. Army as a private, Company D, 9th Regt, Kansas Volunteer Cavalry, 16 Jan 1862. Newbold, Kansas. His residence was Iola, Kansas, he was born in Tennessee. He had hazel eyes, gray hair, light complexion, 6 feet. He is said mustered out 21 Dec 1864, but that is in conflict with his date of death as 10 Mar 1863 at Ft. Scott, KS, which is correct based on other findings.
