Individual Details
(20 Feb 1870 - 22 Oct 1955)
Sallie's second husband, William Pollan, was her first cousin. She reported he died of typhoid soon after their marriage. Sallie's father was listed as "Zac" Poindexter on the Cherokee Rolls. Her mother's name too light to be read, but it did begin with an "M". Sallie never declared in anyway that she had Indian blood in the documents of John Allison - her third husband, John R. Allison, was enrolled as 1/8 Cherokee; his six children by his first wife and Sabra and Edgar as children of Sallie as 1/16. Sallie was originally enrolled as "adopted" Cherokee as being intermarried, but a Supreme Court decision in 1906 changed the status of those whites married to Cherokee and she was rejected.
She may have been part of an attempt to enroll on the Cherokee rolls in 1896 as her name is in the index with case #5565. The cases are on Ancestry, but Folder 5565 is missing - both the previous and succeeding files are there. Others in the group included her brother Zachariah W. Poindexter and sister Cordia Hunt., as well as cousins, the children of Mary Jane Poindexter and Robert J. Pollan/
