I found information about Jesse Porter Ewing's family in a WorldConnect file. It is not all accurate. It states Joseph was born in Newton Co AR, as does the information about his brother Gwinn Porter Ewing. By 1870, Gwinn did live in Newton Co and had married Tennessee Jane Cooper whose father Isaac was in Newton Co by 1850. However, I find no Ewings living in Newton Co in 1850 or 1860. In fact, there was no Newton Co yet named at the time Joseph and Gwinn were born.

Joseph & Gwinn said to be the sons of John A. Ewing, b. Kentucky and Elizabeth Davis. I did not find a John Ewing but I did find Joseph & Gwinn. It would appear their father died, and his wife Elizabeth married again to Alfred Reed.

Reed children, b. in MO: Rachel 9 [probably a child of an earlier wife of Alfred's], George 6, William 4, Thomas 3, Mahala 2, and Harriet, 6 months. "Wing" children born in AR: Davis 16, Gwinn 14, Joseph 12, Hardman 10, and Sarah age 7.

In 1870 and 1880, Joseph Ewing and his wife Mary E. [Mary Elizabeth Braswell] lived with their children, including their 4th child, Jesse Porter Ewing, in Greene County, MO.
