Thomas Putnam Miller

(1 Dec 1812 - Feb 1891)

FindAGrave lists two spouses:
Eliza Meek ( ? - d. 11 Jan 1838, Lebanon, Boone Co IN - her place of burial unknown)
Susan A. Kersey (1824 in KY -1892)

It is said that Eliza drowned in the Wabash River at the age of 25. She had three children - William, Sylvanus, and James [who doesn't appear in the 1850 census].

There is a very old stone in the Eagle Village Cemetery, Boone Co IN. It appears to perhaps be an old military marker - it has no dates, just "S. S. Miller, Co. F, 86th IND INF."
He was apparently in the Civil War - I did find the same information on Ancestry, except his name was given as Sylvanus S. Miller.
In the Indiana Marriage Collection - 1800-1941 on Ancestry:
Sylvenas S. Miller, married Nancy E. Taylor, 20 Jul 1855, Boone Co, IN
Sylvanus S. Miller married Anna Ayres, 5 May 1868, Marion Co. [an accompanying note says he was age 10, or born about 1868 - surely an error!]
The only Sylvanus Miller I've been able to find in census records after 1860 is a Sylvanus in Harrioson Twp, Boone Co, in 1880 - he was age 36 and born in IN - says his father born in VA and his wife was a Mary C., age 34. So if this is the right Sylvanus, he may have married a second time. The children were John L. 9, Annie V. 6, Thomas F. 4, and Claudus age 1. I could not find any similar name in 1870.
I also found a pension card for Sylvester S. Miller who served in Co F, 84th IN Inf - enlisted 6 Aug 1862 and discharged 14 Jun 1865. He had an invalid pension, 902.713, Certificate 1012915, filed 8 Aug 1890 and his widow [no name stated] applied 1.133.879, Certificate 872.379, 4 Jan 1919. Note at the bottom of the card says: Died 19 Dec 1918, College Springs, Iowa. [Page Co, IA]. This appears to have actually been a Sylvester, born in Ohio in 1843 - so it's just a man of similar name.

For whatever reason, two counts were taken of Ward 1, Indianapolis in 1870.

A son Harrison S. Miller is also buried at Crown Hill. Born 1849, died 12 May 1904, Indianapolis.
Also Edward Harold, born 1867, died 17 Oct 1934. Edward was married to Wilheminia "Minnie" Reichart, born 1863, died 1895. Frank Curtis Miller was a son of Edward's, born 30 Jun 1887 in Indiana, died 12 Jan 1984, Riverside Co, CA [The early censuses indicate Edward was also called Edwin.]
