Samuel married by about 1640 to Sarah Mitchell, daughter of Matthew Mitchell.

24 Apr 1641 Lands of Sam. Sherman, given him by his father Ed. Sherman, lying in Wethersfield on Connecticut River: 1 piece whereon his house & barn stands, 3 acres; one pice of 40 acres lying in the West Field, one pice on the east side of the Great River, 144 acres.


Samuel served in the Pequot War. He was a Deputy from Stratford to the Connecticut Legislature, Oct 1660. Commissioner for Stratford, 1671-75.
