Individual Details
Thomas Johnson
( - 1698)
Thomas Johnson married Judith Betts Duncombe, widow of William Duncombe - they had three children which were apparently all deceased by the time Thomas made out his will.
Thomas Johnson's will dated 16 Nov 1698 stated he was of Billsby in the County of Lincolne. He bequeathed a great deal of his property to Judith Johnson, his niece, a daughter of Richard Johnson of Virginia, Merchant. He also mentions his son in law William Duncumbe - actually his stepson. Thomas was careful to include provisions that would bar Judith from most of her inheiritance should she ever choose her father as a guardian. Thomas appointed his wife Executrix and the guardianship of his niece Judith until she reached twenty-one or married [she married soon after at age 14] His stepson William Duncombe and the Vicar, Anthony Garley, were to act as trustees/guardians if his wife died.
