Individual Details

Although Lucy's name is shown as Lucy Ann Williams in a number of places, I have found no source for her surname. In 1850 in Calloway there were a lot of individuals listed only with initials. The L's and S's looked very much alike. There was indexed an S. A. Williams, age 20, a female, with what could have been brothers, B. W. Williams age 27, and P. S. Williams age 21 - of course "S.A." could have been the wife of either as well since no relationship is given. And her name could have been "L.A." - it's impossible to tell. There was no Lucy Williams in the 1850 census in Calloway.

After the death of Archelas, Lucy married Silvester McDaniel.

The 1880 Census was the first to specify family relationships; relationships in prior censuses are "assumed" based on additional information.

Then listed is John B. age 11 - he is listed with the Vance surname but Archelas Vance had died in 1865; there is no relationship stated for this child. Either he was Silvester McDaniel's child and the enumerator failed to note his surname and relationship, or he is illegitimate. In 1870, the children were all listed with the McDaniel surname - so presumably John was a McDaniel.

Buried Haynes Cemetery, Calloway Co. is Lucy Ann Vance, born 1830, and died 1910. Presumably this is the same Lucy. I never found Lucy in the 1900 census, no Lucy of anywhere near the proper age at all in Calloway Co, regardless of surname.
